Dissent Magazine

Commissioned by Dissent Magazine to illustrate the debut of Apocalypse Chow, a food column by Arun Gupta examining how capitalism shapes what and how we eat, this editorial artwork was developed to visually interpret the social and economic layers embedded within everyday dining.

The illustration accompanied a feature centred on a Chinatown dumpling shop in New York City, reflecting on immigrant cuisine, food pricing, and cultural value. Through bold composition and symbolic detail, the piece translates complex political themes into a visually engaging narrative for print and digital publication.

A colorful illustration with various foods such as pizza, burgers, ramen, dumplings, sushi, and ice cream around the words 'Apocalypse Chow' in the center, with a vibrant, comic-style background.
